چکیده

This paper describes currently developed chemical and thermal landmine neutralization methods under the DoD Humanitarian Demining Research and Development (HD R&D) Program. It includes a table showing the differences among current detonation or demolition techniques, and among chemical and thermal systems. Comparative elements include the neutralization mechanism; neutralization effects; time required to neutralize mines; explosive, standoff, operational, transportation and storage requirements; quality control; reliability; human factors; effectiveness; applicability to buried mines; applicability to UX; and cost.

Trip wire detection using polarimetric IR

Today, most research institutes dealing with landmine detection as a topic and even within many mine action communities there is a stereotype landmine image, where the only challenge is considered to be the detection of the small lowor nonmetallic anti-personnel blast mine. Indeed, this plastic cased pressure operated mine is difficult to detect. However, to the well protected deminer adhering ...

In-Situ Landmine Neutralization Using Chemicals to Initiate Low Order Burning of Main Charge

An estimated 45 to 50 million emplaced landmines in over 60 countries kill or maim approximately 10,000 people annually. An international humanitarian demining effort is underway to eliminate this global problem. Currently, the most common in-situ mine neutralization procedure is demolition using small explosive charges such as C-4 or TNT. However, this method is not suitable for mines placed o...

A Sensitive Neutralization Assay for Influenza C Viruses Based on the Acetylesterase Activity HEF Glycoprotein

Influenza C virus possesses specific neuraminate-O-acetylesterase as a receptor-destroying function. This enzymatic activity of the viral glycoprotein HEF (Hemagglutinin, esterase activity and fusion factor) can be visualized in situ by the use of distinct color substrates. Hereby the localization, as well as the quantity of synthesized HEF protein is detectable. We further developed the estera...

A New Sensitivity Study of Thermal Stress Distribution for a Planar Solid Oxide Fuel Cell

Converting chemical energy into electricity is done by an electro-chemical device known as a fuel cell. Thermal stress is caused at high operating temperature between 700 oC to 1000 oC of SOFC. Thermal stress causes gas escape, structure variability, crack initiation, crack propagation, and cease operation of the SOFC before its lifetime. The aim of this study is to presen...

The role of 1-hexene comonomer content in thermal behavior of medium density polyethylene (MDPE) synthesized using Phillips catalyst

In this work, the role of comonomer content of 1-hexene-medium density polyethylene (MDPE) copolymer, synthesized using Phillips catalyst, on thermal behavior parameters such as: crystallization, melting temperature and thermal degradation was investigated in detail. The copolymer was fractionated to homogenous short-chain branching (SCB) fractions by "preparative temperature rising elution fra...
